Afghan Soldier, As He Rages On
Whatever passes for the central government in Afghanistan has been disrupting the effort of journalists to document the wide ranging violence that occurred immediately before elections took place on August 20th. Its quite likely that the government doesn’t want journalists to find out how badly botched were some of the government’s security measures.
Update: It has now become obvious that though the Taliban failed in its promise to kill every voter with dyed fingers, it was more than successful in suppressing turnout in the South, particularly around Kandahar. The low turnout numbers might well, show however the level of election irregularities that Karzai and his coalition of clients and supporters have sponsored.
